Vehicle safety inspection checklist

The checks a workshop runs on a general safety inspection: brakes with pad depths, tyres with the lowest tread depth, lights, wipers, horn, seatbelts and leaks. Readings below the limit are marked as findings with the work to recommend.

This is a workshop checklist, not a roadworthy or pink-slip certificate; those are issued on the form and by the inspectors your state or country authorises.

The checks

Brakes

• Front brake pad depth (mm) (a finding below 3 mm)
• Rear brake pad depth (mm) (a finding below 3 mm)
• Brake fluid level and condition: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable

Tyres

• Lowest tyre tread depth (mm) (a finding below 1.5 mm)
• Tyre condition (cuts, bulges, uneven wear): pass, advisory, fail or not applicable

Lights, visibility and safety

• Headlights, indicators and brake lights: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable
• Wipers and washers: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable
• Horn: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable
• Seatbelts: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable
• Oil, coolant and fuel leaks: pass, advisory, fail or not applicable
• Notes for the customer
• Checked by: the technician’s name
